OK, I'm an old-fart traditionalist when it comes to big-wave riding. I've always felt that if you cannot take-on a giant Hawaiian-style wave .. using nothing but your own self-contained god-given judgement, skill, and bodily power & strength in all the right places throughout your own body .. then it's not quite 'authentic' big-wave riding. Sure .. it's an 'ARTIFICIALLY-induced thrill' to see this guy take off being TOWED to get the necessary speed up. But it's all just too techno-false to me.

i think the coolest part is he didn't fall all the way till the end, amazing, if the video is even real... im bout to start surfing for the first time soon when I reseal this board I am refinishing that I got for 20 bucks. I just ordered a leash and a pad, waiting in the mail and when I get done finishing this board and seal with sanding resin and then hopefully I can go out and surf for the first time b4 it gets too cold here in florida, 80 degrees on wednesday then I'm hunting that weekend

It's not Laird... this is Mike Parsons surfing Jaws from the movie Billabong Odyssey. His previous wave was almost as big but he ate it and was held under for a very long time... but he went back out and caught this and won the competition.

That is very real!! It's at Mavericks in Northern Calif. I'm an old Cali surfer from way back surfed all over the West Coast I've been to Hawaii North Shore and seen some real Big Wednesdays, even took on a few, but I've never seen any thing like that. This videos gives a rush everytime I see it. Amazing!!
