America what happen, the world looked at you as our saviors and guiding nation. Beach Boys had there sound, clean fun sound with Brian Wilson a great talent and history will look back to acknowledge it. We look at the videos and compare then to know "WOW". Went from heaven to hell, had great looking people and culture. Somebody didn't like beautiful things and country so masterminded a fall. Repeat of the dark ages. USA has to get back to its roots and lead again with a renaissance to bring us out with love and peace. God Bless.

Remember the first time I heard The Beach Boys. I was a kid, circa 1976 and a neighbor a few years older than me called me over and said you want to hear something great? I said sure. Played Surfin USA. Never been the same since.
I don't know which came first, but it sounds like Sweet Little Sixteen by Chuck Berry

Cady Tigue actually they did. This song came out in 1963 and Chuck Berry’s name didn’t appear in the songwriting credits until 1966, three years after the song was made. And that was only because Arc Music threatened Brian Wilson with a lawsuit.

Yes this is Sweet lil Sixteen guitar riffs But what most people dont know is the beach boys did not stop there later in there career there drummer met a lil hippie guy who he thought had some talent that guys name was Charles Manson and manson sung some songs for the group after the session they said he was going to get a record contract but it never happened later manson learned of there song NEVER LEARN NOT TO LOVE it was his but some lyrics were changed unlike berry they fucked with the wrong guy this time and because of the BB thieving ways a handful of people were murdered in retaliation.

LADIES, LADIES, CALM DOWN! Chuck Berry has a writing credit for Surfin U.S.A.! He gets a portion of the money
Commander Straker- 4 years ago
Chuck Berry gets royalties; the Beach Boys do not. Murray Wilson sold their song catalog. They have to pay to perform their oldies.
Lady Laraine- 4 years ago
+Matthew Finnegan Duane Eddy's what? Will have to check that out! Have I want to share something else. I saw Chuck Berry right here on youtube in an interview with Johnny Carson. Johnny remarked, "Alot of people have stolen your songs...." To which the humble Mr. Berry said, "BORROWED." He didn't mind--as others have said on this page--Mr. Berry would get paid royalties for songwriting credit, if other artists used his songs. That is--when he got songwriting credit--as you said--like on "Surfin' USA." He even told Johnny Carson he had been friends with Elvis, the "King of Rock n. Roll." Johnny called him the Father of Rock n' Roll. Nice, humble man!
Matthew Finnegan- 4 years ago
Lady Laraine The opening lick sounds similar to Duane Eddy’s Movin’ ‘N Groovin’
Lady Laraine- 4 years ago
Brian Wilson's father gave him the publishing right. Because not only the melody was identical--so was that unique guitar lick you hear at the beginning. But they gave him (Berry) the right--they did the right thing. John 14 - By this shall all men (and women) know you are my disciples--because you have love for one another. And preceding verse - Behold, I (Jesus) give you a new commandment--that you love one another, as I have loved you. I love both musicians--Beach Boys--and Chuck Berry.

Here is a bit of trivia for ya. The Beach boys let Charles Manson live with them. Stole Charles Manson song 'cease to exist' and turned it into 'Never learn not to love'. Due to Manson owing Dennis 100,00 dollars. Dennis Beat the shit out of Manson after he made a hinted threat at his kids. And moved out of the house that they let Manson stay at with them. shortly after wards. 6 months before the murders of 9 people at said house. Including the death of Beverly Hill billies starlet. Aside from them stealin' Chuck Berry's "Sweet sixteen."

It also sounds like Rock N' Roll Music by Chuck Berry too.
Well Technically it's Surf Rock. 'Sweet Little Sixteen' would be classified as Rock 'n' Roll, but the beat on this isn't big enough and there isn't as much emphasis on guitar, piano, etc. Rock 'n' Roll was really breathing it's last few breaths of air in 1963.

"Oh Mommy, Mommy Please may I go It's such a sight to see Somebody steal the show" "Oh Daddy, Daddy I beg of you Whisper to Mommy It's alright with you"

From an article directly relating to this...
The Beach Boys vs. Chuck Berry (1963) "Surfin' U.S.A.," by the Beach Boys (1963) vs. "Sweet Little Sixteen," by Chuck Berry (1958)
The Case: The California boys often incorporated rock & roll pioneer Chuck Berry's songs into their early concerts. But 1958's "Sweet Little Sixteen" set Beach Boys' composer Brian Wilson into overdrive. Inspired by Berry's rapid-fire references to various American cities, he recast the song as a paean to a fun-in-the-sun sport. Wilson penned a new set of lyrics listing off the hot surfing locales across the Pacific coast. Wilson said he intended the song as a tribute to the rock guitarist, but Berry's lawyers used another term: plagiarism.
The Verdict: With the threat of lawsuits looming, Beach Boys manager – and Brian Wilson's father – Murry Wilson agreed to give the publishing rights to Arc Music, Berry's publisher. However, Berry's name wouldn't appear on the songwriting credits until 1966.
Why It Matters: Although the genre was built on a handful of standard three-chord progressions and blues licks, the "Surfin' U.S.A." incident was one of the first major plagiarism scuffles in rock history.
I believe that this was in fact a tribute and was not meant to be an insult. Brian Wilson admired Chuck Berry greatly and I think he just got a little too excited when he heard "Sweet Little Sixteen" and made his own song without thinking of the consequences. They gave the rights over to Berry's publishing company, what else do you want?
Chris Morgan- 5 years ago
Joshua Stevens theres a difference between "borrowing" and blatantly stealing music, they took berrys song note for note and threw their own lyrics over it
Oh... And it's Jeferson, not Jefferson. Only one f. Thanks.

EXACTLY!!! REST IN PEACE CHUCK BERRY!!! He won his lawsuit too!!! THIS IS SWEET LITTLE SIXTEEN!
Joshua Stevens- 6 years ago
+Jeferson Torres Well that's fine. I hope you don't lose any sleep over it. I mean, musicians borrow from each other all the time. Especially in the 1800s with classical music and opera, when there wasn't Intellectual Property Rights. Chuck Berry said he didn't care...and it was his song. So why the hell would anyone else?
Jeferson Torres- 6 years ago
Well, I'm a musician myself, composer, songwritter and teacher, so I care. Most people don't care, but I and other people care. My comment is dedicated to those people. But Beach Boys is a great band, anyway.
Joshua Stevens- 6 years ago
+SodaBoy628 Wait, Sweet Little Sixteen is a different song. Although similar melody. However, who cares? I mean, the Beach Boys enhanced it and made it even more popular, so go for them.

In this case it's the ignorance of Brian Wilson (only instance I'll ever use the words "ignorance" and "Brian Wilson" in the same sentence) because even though it was intended as a tribute, he plagiarized the hell out of that song and not only that, he didn't credit Chuck Berry at all, which is a legal issue whether you like it or not.
Disneyfan82- 5 years ago
I tried looking it up and I couldn't find anything about a lawsuit against them. Not to mention that the rhythm actually feels more suitable for a day at the beach than what Berry sang about.

RickGibbonsOfficial- 4 years ago
Their images was kinda boy band-ish, but they wrote their own songs (usually....sorry Chuck) and played their own instruments (when the Wrecking Crew wasn't doing it). They were self-created, Murray was a huge help in the early days but he was far from the fat dude who masterminded some of the groups who are the true boy bands...forget his name.

Beach boys isn’t a boy band. Boy bands don’t play instruments. They just sing to a track played over a stereo. The only boy band that actually made decent music (because they could sing and still had a hint of meaning behind their lyrics) was Backstreet Boys.

Esatto.

beatlettese- 10 years ago

Beatles in 34 anni! Musica e collezionismo.

Duane Eddy's what? Nice, humble man!
lick you hear at the beginning. But they gave him (Berry) the right--they did the right thing. John 14 - By this shall all men
(and women) know you are my disciples--because you have love for one another. And preceding verse - Behold, I (Jesus)
give you a new commandment--that you love one another, as I have loved you. I love both musicians--Beach Boys--and
Chuck Berry.

And down in New Orleans
All the cats wanna dance with
Sweet Little Sixteen
Sweet Little Sixteen
She's just got to have
About half a million
Famed autographs
Her wallet filled with pictures
She gets them one by one
Becomes so excited
Watch her, look at her run.
"Oh Mommy, Mommy
Please may I go
It's such a sight to see
Somebody steal the show"
"Oh Daddy, Daddy
I beg of you
Whisper to Mommy
It's alright with you"
'Cause they'll be rockin' on Bandstand
In Philadelphia, Pa.
Deep in the heart of Texas
And round the 'Frisco Bay
All over St.Louis
Way down in New Orleans
All the cats wanna dance with
Sweet Little Sixteen
'Cause they'll be rockin' on Bandstand
In Philadelphia, Pa.
Deep in the heart of Texas
And round the 'Frisco Bay
All over St.Louis
Way down in New Orleans
All the cats wanna dance with
Sweet Little Sixteen
Sweet Little Sixteen
She's got the grown - up blues
Tight dresses and lipstick
She's sportin' high - heel shoes
Oh but tomorrow morning
She'll have to change her trend
And be sweet sixteen
And back in class again
Well the'll be rockin' in Boston
Pittsburgh, Pa.
Deep in the heart of Texas
And round the 'Frisco Bay
Way out in St.Louis
Way down in New Orleans
All the cats wanna dance with
Sweet Little Sixteen
Well, both songs are good.
Chuck Berry stole this song from Beach Boys
The Beach Boys vs. Chuck Berry (1963)
"Surfin' U.S.A.," by the Beach Boys (1963) vs.
Actually this was made before Chuck Berry's song, so Berry stole it.
Listen to "Sweet Little Sixteen" by Chuck Berry and hear the similarities. Chuck berry sued the Beach Boys and won <3
Period.
That's even worse then the Justin Bieber comment. I like the Beach Boys and Miley Cyrus. To say that the pop music from the Beach Boys and the pop music sung by Miley Cyrus isn't that different. The better person to compare the haters to would be Chuck Berry since they basically stole the song, since they forgot to give him credit for the song.
