I got a payed lawyer for 7k, had the charge reduced from illegal possession of a firearm to possession of a prohibited weapon and got sentenced to two years probation, no felony on my record. It’s not impossible. Surf is right, it’s not about the state or charge. It’s about the specific situation and the details of the law that determine wether you’re convicted or not.

Nobody I know from Jersey, with expensive lawyers or public defenders, have had this type of success. There’s mitigating factors like he mentioned but also aggravating factors. I just think his charges have been trumped up and exaggerated in the first place.

The only time you get a good Public Defender is if you are lucky enough to get one that is trying to get they own law firm. Those are the ones tryin to get you off. The fact that you have a paid attorney also dont guarantee he isn't trying to sell you out. It all depends. But you do have a better chance getting a paid lawyer. N if you are lookin for a lawyer ask him or her how they feel about you're case. And if they say we gonna win I guarantee or something like that. Do not hire them. The best lawyer wont say that to you. They will always say shit like it looks good or I give it a 80 percent chance or something along those lines. Cause they know court is like heavy weight boxing. Anything can happen.
