He (Rivers Cuomo) wrote it as kind of a joke. He thought about how the Beach Boys wrote all these songs about the beach and surfing, despite having a member who was terrified of the ocean, and he wrote this song kind of like that. It's all about beer and surfing despite the fact that he enjoys neither. I can't remember where I read that; I think Weezerpedia.

during this song at a concert, i got pushed and this cute guy helped me so i wouldnt fall. i remembered his face idk why. when i took pics he came out in the back. a year later on a saturday night i was looking at the pics and thought Damn, im never gonna see that cute guy again, oh well haha. then the next morning at my college orientation, he was there!!! and i had to sit in the same row! it was sooooo weirrrddd!!! but i didnt get to talk to him or even know his name. :( FUCK.
