If you think tight spaces is bad, why these fishes grow well instead? Hormones are expensive feeds than natural fish foods...put that in your mind.
But I agree local Tilapias although smaller naturally than hybrids taste better several times over and mostly that what we eat when were kids not these big tasteless hybrids of Tilapias

i did cooking only plain tilapia fish in the potware and good tastey tilapia with BBQ flavor sauce...
no butter / no cooking oil / no fatty / no greaseey / no oilly / no veg oil

Also not every Fish need to be Fresh to taste good there are a lot of fish that taste good after left for 1-3 days for it Umami.
