Never seen a head boat that had that quality of tackle. Usually its the penn senators. Sure glad you had that big wedge of lemon. That is the topper for fish. Next time you do something like that pile the rice in the center of the plate and place the fish around it After a few minutes of sitting those fish juices and the lemon will work there way into that rice.

Ta'ape are invasive because they go after all the other fishes eggs. So the more we can get rid of, the better

+Fornwith I think invasives are seen as bad mostly because they can eat and disrupt native fish populations. Regarding poisoning, I think that's specific to whether a species can biologically hold unsafe levels of pollutants or not, not because its invasive or native. For the record, I dive Maui and ta'ape are EVERYWHERE, so touristy charters like this help dent their population.

Never seen blueline cooked up before so that was great. And you're right about smaller fish a lot of the times tasting better than their larger brethren; at the very least you'll likely run into less dark meat and contaminants.

Also that last shot of you and your son on the shore; were you gathering bait then? I know "sand crabs" there are legit crabs, but did you ever gather any other kind of live shore bait while you were fishing there?

Catch & Cook's are definitely a favorite, especially if it's caught locally since it's something I can try and reproduce. Still waiting on that intrepid soul to C&C some jacksmelt (probably a smaller one)... for the subs of course.

So your fishing from shore in HI was primarily lure & artificial-based? I might've missed you hooking livebait in one of your previous vids so apologies if I did. Hooking crabs sounds like what I've seen people with sidewinder crabs as they fish jetties and rocky/tidepool-ish areas further south of HMB.

cool, happy to show something new. yup, i prefer eating juveniles too, less junk in them although HI water is pretty darn clean. in the last shot, we were just playing in the sunset, kind of a closing shot on my maui series. i don't think sand fleas exist out there, but, i do know a lot of locals catch the small black rock crabs that are everywhere, cut them in half and use as bait for night fishing when the big predatory fish come out. when my kids are older, i'll have more free time to myself out there to fish it day and night.
