Catching GIANT Fish in a FLOODED Creek

With the river blown out, I fished Chickamauga Creek with my buddy Phil. I was able to cast net about two dozen threadfin shad, which we used as bait. Our hunch was to catch catfish, but the freshwater drum would not keep off our baits. They were fun to catch, especially the big ones. Don't ever underestimate the potential of a creek...you just never know what could be at the end of your line. Those were huge drum. Nice catch. Also yes those were lampreys on that bass. It probably would have ended up dying if you didnt remove them. They arent like leeches. Leeches will eventually fall off , lampreys stay attached and continue to feed and live on the fish till it dies.

If I remember the last time I ate them, they had a super firm white meat and were pretty good. I wouldn't keep any of them over 5 lbs for personal preference though.
Crappie Hippie
Crappie Hippie - 6 years ago
just keep them COLD...everyone around here who complains about drum dragged them around on a stringer, pop'em into a live well or a cooler, the meat is rich and goes off flavor if it gets to warm...it's the same thing as channel bass or black drum in coastal fishing, good stuff in a freshwater version...

I would not call drum a pan fish, pan fish refers to bluegill and crappies.
