Cold weather has brought seasonal fish into the inlets of south Florida. While fishing with shrimp I caught sheepshead and pompano near the jetties. After three hours of fishing and catching very few fish I decided to try a different spot where I've recently been landing snook. Not much was happening there either. I manged to reel in three small mangrove snapper and got broke off by something really big. You can catch just about any fish in Florida on shrimp. In this video I actually demonstrate what I believe to be the best way to hook a live shrimp. Even though I insinuated at the end of the video that the pelican poo symbolized a crappy day of fishing, it wasn't. After finalizing the video and watching it several times before publishing it, I kept thinking of the saying: "A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work"! I am so grateful that I can spend just about every day fishing if I choose. Life is good and I definitely am living the dream.

I noticed the sheepshead bite is slowing down a little. We still got a bunch but like you said we had to wait a lot between bites. I got a big grouper today and the footage was ruined by the sun right behind my head lol

With the persuit penns they arnt much the greatest penn reels more of s get what you pay for kind of reel so they way they are built arnt going to be as strong

Thanks for sharing. I've used the 6000 series Penn Pursuit for a while, caught a lot of fish on it and please with how well it works. I'm hoping the 4000 will be a good one too, perhaps that returned one was a lemon. Time will tell, I'll keep updates on the channel if something happens again.

Drove the 2hrs (each way) 2 times this week hoping to see you. Mid of the week over there was SICK. 30 knot wind could not get out on that jetty and fishing was slow at the bridge.

I do better with shrimp for the Sheepshead, but for pompano the sand-fleas are by far the very best. But the beach there does not have them or too many shells make it hard to find them. Hope to hook up with you soon.

Thanks for sharing. Fishing was off for me last week, tax junk to take care of. I'm going to target some pompano there this week. Apparently they are getting thicker in the area. One problem is that daylight is bringing slack tides right now. It's an interesting area to fish, certain times and tides seem to produce results.

Nothing against Wal-Mart, I bought the same Penn reel for $59. It casted nice, but my first hookup was a bull red. Drag never worked and broke 30lb braid on initial run. Took it back, got refund bought the same reel at academy, no problems. 6 trips.

Get a different reel, can’t go cheap with any reel, you get what you pay for with pursuits they easily burn out and the gears get messed up, Diawa arnt bad reels at all like diawa bg And some of their most expensive reels the saltiest and saltiga so you get what you pay for

Rad Reeling Fishing you'll like the 6000 series, but they're a bigger reel. Make sure the rod seat will fit a 6000.

I have two of the Penn Pursuits in 6000 that I've caught a ton of snook on, love them. I hope this new 4000 works out as good as the 6000 model. Time will tell the story.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I saw another big snook cruise right in front of me, same spot. He wouldn't hit the shrimp. I'm going to hit that spot at daylight when the tide gets right, should do good at that time.

I was actually on the other side of the jetty they were everywhere..I was doing better with a heavier split shot..than using the egg wait it was my first time fishing the other u should try it out I think u will like it

Woow! I'm guessing you were fishing right about where the trees meet the beach. People were crushing the sheepshead right there. They just weren't in the spot I was in. Fifteen pound Power Pro. I'm not very impressed with this brand. I usually use the Super Power braid, eight times the amount of line for a little more money. I use three rods for saltwater fishing, one with 30 lb., another with 50 lb test and my Penn 4000 spooled with 15 pound.
