Hi. You also can use Bunker, squid or bloodworm. Blues Fish love Bunker. Blues are fighters you will have to fight hard to wheel him in. Fish are very picky eaters some like different bait. I found that out when I watch people catching porgy and I was the only one without a catch also make sure you don't have cigarette smoke etc on your hands because they will not eat your bait. You can purchase bait at the bait shop not expensive. I'm planning to go to Rockaway to check the spot out. I also wanted to let you know that you have to check the tide if is low you might not be able to catch if is high tide is best. The moon phase have influence too if you go during full moon you might not be able to catch as many because at this time the fishes are busy. lol. according to some fisherman tales.and if sardines are out in large quantity you might now be as lucky they rather eat sardine sushi than bait.lol. they full so they won't go for the bait. Regarding your pole you need a good one that can hold a line of 10 -15 pounds or more. I recommend a Shakespeare or Ugly stick for the reel you need a Penn or Shakespeare you can purchase it at Walmart or any Sports Authority is less expensive and works well.
