Yep, guppies are hardy, but if ya didn't show us proof, I wouldn't had believe they could survive in 35°F. weather! Btw, Mr. Bill, seeing how you live in the States' breadbasket, around cattle and corn and alfalfa, I reckon you've come across a "pesky fungii", corn smut,....well besides being a nuisance the stuff's edible! Give it a try Mr. Bill, seems that corn is rich in starch and fat, but when the corn smut takes over, it turns that into amino acids, an 8" ear of corn smut sells for 25 pesos(1.30usd)while an 8"ear of corn sells for 2 pesos(10 us cents).

few years back before I started with guppies, I would not have believed it either-- using a 50 watt heater on the deadly cold nights they huddle around it a pot bellied stove in the middle of winter-- we fight corn smut up here-- consider it a curse

I used to have a 30 gallon guppy tank. I can confirm their toughness. I didn't know they could take temps that cold though.

and these are 50 babies-~~doing well,-~~ air bubbles keep water from freezing and heater is a 50 watt- but would put out a second heater if it hit one of the zero degree nights, but winters here are just not like they were in the 1970's

Yes nature is sometimes stronger than we think, 105.8 f or 41 C that was the temperature of my dog when he got a virus, they die at 42 c so he got meds and after 14 days he was ok again but the whole time he was 105.8 f and playful as always, i guess it wasn't time too say his last goodbye yet :-)

We have a raccoon family in a hollow portion of our elm tree. Cute to watch but they would make a quick snack out of the guppies if you didn't have a secure lid or ever forgot to leave it on at night.

had more than a few cat try that game of catching a guppy-- all got wet and never seen one catch even one--

A fish tank is nice to have next to your Family hangout area.
If you put a piece of styrofoam on top of the outdoor tank , the water tank temp will be a little more friendly.

yep, got one cut for it but only at night fish seem to gladly take the cold if they can see light
