NaturesJewels entertainment purposes. I buy fish all the time and end up rehousing them. I myself can’t afford massive tanks for fish, so I grow them out as much as I can until I rehouse him. I do it to get the fish out of the pet store into a better aquarium

Nobody has mentioned that that is an oxeye or indo-pacific tarpon. The tarpon that get huge are Atlantic tarpon, and are illegal to remove from the wild without a tarpon tag in FL at least. The only commercially available Atlantic tarpon are usually from Africa and are expensive. Oxeyes don’t get very large in the wild so it will probably be more than a few months before that one is too big to keep.

scratches head 1: that "bubble" on the lip does not appear to be normal. hopefully he's not carrying any parasites that will infect your tank. 2: tarpons grow to be huge. unless you can accommodate his future growth, it's basically pointless to have him as a pet and then release him in the wild where he will most likely die of either starvation or predators within the first week.

Sean Marks it’s not ick, nor will this fish will grow massive. What happened to his lip was a defect at birth called bubble lip. It’s not dangerous just there. The largest tarpon is called an Atlantic tarpon. This tarpon is not. I can’t remember off my head what species it is but it’s not an Atlantic.

Do you know that Tarpons grow to up to 7 feet long?! Only public aquariums house them and they do not take donations. Also they are a SALT WATER fish! I swear there are times when I think you have no idea what you are doing. I used to see them all the time when I worked at the New England Aquarium as a volunteer. I saw an adultn a good 6 foot +, leap across a 40 foot span from once side of the tank over a fake coral reef and smack into the concrete wall on the other side, and that didn't even stun it. They are powerful fish and they grow fast. In the open ocean they are a game fish. Think big tuna, swordfish, mako shark. They are jumpers when startled.

I've come to that conclusion as well. He's now gone into the big predator fish syndrome. Having big predator fish doesn't make you a tough guy it makes you a fool in the long run because very quickly you'll run out of room to house them and run out of money to feed them. I know because when I was 15 I did the same thing. I quickly grew out of it.

If you continue to do live feeding I think you should give the goldfish a place to hide so the tarpin can hunt. It's generally good as mental stimulation for the fish.

U should buy a larger tank so once the peacock bass and tarpan outgrow the 125 they could go into the bigger tank like a 300 or so but love the videos

sucks your tank is way too small still. he will eventually need saltwater. you should donate him to an aquarium.
