Find some shad or local bait fish the same size as your artificial lures.
Its funny to me that people use small lures when fishing and then rig up a live bait that is 10x bigger and expect to catch a fish.

Jr Juarez
Jr Juarez - 7 years ago
I live in California and I took Alaska airline they charged me for the my rods though I do not remember how much. Just call the air line you plan on taking and ask in advanced. Oh and keep transportation from the airport in mind. Mexico has a lot of pick up truck style taxis so I doubt the extra length will be a problem. Have fun and remember to pack a good amount of your favorite hooks, lures and other terminal tackle. That stuff can be pretty pricey and hard to find in mex
FRM
FRM - 7 years ago
+Jr Juarez ok thanks what airline do you normally take there?
Jr Juarez
Jr Juarez - 7 years ago
I take my stuff when I go to Mazatlan Mexico. go to your local tackle shop look for a used or new rod case mine was used and cheaper, it looks like a plastic bazooka that can extend and depending on your airline they will charge you extra or not because of how long it is. Take your reels in a regular suit case same with tackle and have a blast in mex

Haha lets go... going to release everything I catch even ocean fish. I couldn't live with myself if I release every fish I catch. I can see releasing a few or even 2/3ds , but what's the point by the time you spend all this money and effort for the fish you catch you don't eat them or give them away? Do people really think that when they release every fish they are protecting the fish species? COME ON GET REAL. There are so many starving people you could feed a small village or homeless person with the fish you catch. I give my fish away all the time. Real fishermen catch the fish they have and use them as a resource or if they know that a species is endangered release them.
Jr Juarez
Jr Juarez - 7 years ago
Whos talking about 3rd world counties? I have no problem with them eating fish they catch, they fish for food not for fun. I fish for fun.the only fish I keep are legal sized California halibut and I still end up letting most of them go . What big picture are you talking about? You said what's the point of buying fishing equipment and not keeping fish and How real fishermen eat all their fish and I pointed out how that's not true. What's the point of keeping fish when you're are just going to give it away every time? I'm sure those needy people would much rather have money then a fish filled with Mercury I have no problem with keeping fish, but I don't have to so I let them go. I fish for fun not food if I want fish I will buy farm raised tilapia which is much cleaner and healthier then wild caught fish much cheaper too. no heavy metals in my brain thank you very much
Paul Michaels
Paul Michaels - 7 years ago
+Jr Juarez I catch and release many of the fish I catch. I keep what I eat and give fish to people who want to eat it. In 3rd world Asian countries people rely on fish for their diet. In the U.S. there is not a shortage of food and many people here fish for sport. You clearly don't look at the big picture and are into the gimmicks of buying the latest fishing gear and follow people who release all their fish.
Jr Juarez
Jr Juarez - 7 years ago
Why would you keep fish you don't want to eat? What is wrong with spending money on something you love? I'm pretty sure a homeless man would a much rather have a 20 dollar bill then a dead fucking fish GET REAL. why would anyone fish for food? You could buy a lot of fresh fish with the money wasted on rod real lures bait fuel ect. Fishing is fun I respect people who only catch and release or keep a fisher two for dinner, I hate people who fill up there freezer with dead fish that never gets eaten

After fishing saltwater take the side cover off your reel and spray it with WD40 the reel won't be as corroded
Cooking and Fishing
Cooking and Fishing - 8 years ago
+robert m would be great for dissolving the grease in your reel as well. Absolutely no reason to use wd40 unless you're regreasing a reel, or wiping down the outside.
robert m
robert m - 8 years ago
+Cooking and Fishing
Actually it stands for Water Displacement 40. Its a penetrating oil and water displacing spray. It would be great for getting salt water out of a reel. If the reel takes a swim then you should do an in depth cleaning and use a better oil.
Naked Acres
Naked Acres - 8 years ago
+Cooking and Fishing WD-40 is not a solvent. Granted it is crap, but. It was developed for space rockets as a light corrosion preventative and lube. The 40 stands for the 40th recipe the guy tried before it did what he wanted it to do. It is a silicone enhanced light aromatic oil.
Cooking and Fishing
Cooking and Fishing - 8 years ago
+1Rod1ReelFishing WD40 is a solvent, not a lubricant. It's the opposite of what you want in your reels (unless you're stripping old grease). Lock down your drag, gently rinse with fresh water, back off drag, open side plate and let your reel air dry. Then apply grease/oil to all maintenance points and you're good to go.
Brandon Watkins
Brandon Watkins - 8 years ago

+Matthew Welsh The problem in this area is ciguatera poisoning. Large snappers and jacks can kill a human. We have about 300 cases per month on St. Thomas. It is a toxin they get from the reef fish they eat. A ship crew caught an amber jack a few years back. They had to airlift the whole crew off the ship and one died within hours of eating it.

It doesn't have the front transparent dorsal fin like a blue runner and the smaller ones are very bony, on a baby blue runner you can clearly see the spine and rib cages. They also resemble a most silver and bluish tint, hence the name "blue runner". If you look closely this is a crevalle

Do you have to take apart your reel and clean it after fishing saltwater ?  Im going to the beach in a few weeks and want to fish but don't want to mess up my reels
1Rod1ReelFishing
1Rod1ReelFishing - 8 years ago
+Lindsay Stewart-Nunez I rinsed it off in the shower each day after I used it. Just be careful not to get any sand in it and don't drop it in the saltwater and it should be fine, especially if ur reels have corrosion resistant ball bearings, good luck!

Of a dock in Arecibo, Puerto Rico (hometown), there's a lot of 6+ ft Robalo (snook) right on the visible shore. You can only cast out of boats since the fish are used to eating food given my tourist. But they're huuuuugeee!
