Hi, guys. First time viewer.

That would be an awesome place to learn to use an ultralight fly rod! If you want to really sample the species? Try a cane pole with a tear drop and maggot like we use for ice fishing up north. My cichlids love wax worms and eurolarve and the teardrop would give you precise depth control. We also ate a lot of cichlids in Mexico and Brazil. Unless your clear ditch is clear because it's too toxic for plants to grow I would guess they would be delicious!

p.s. like everyone said it's a parrot cichlid - hybrid of midas/red-devil x something else I'm not sure the other half. Petco is full of the things, surprised they can survive in the wild!

It is a parrot cichlid, they are a hybrid and have a “beak” and cannot close their mouths fully.

It's a blood parrot cichlid. A hybrid made in Asia. Most likely what you caught was a recent pet fish release.

That’s a blood parrot cichlid it a man- made hybrid of the red devil and severum cichlid and some say it’s a mix of the Midas and the redhead cichlid. They were bred in Taiwan and around the 1970-80s. A lot of pet stores refused to sell them because nobody knew what the temperament of these fish would be because they are hybrids now they are popular in the aquarium hobby I have 4 of them. They are awesome fish you should keep it.
