Poisonous Fish capable of an Electric Shock dug out of the sand while looking for Pipis!

Poison Spined and Electric! Mate, I had no idea this type of fish lived in our area, I had some vague knowledge of them but thought they only lived at the bottom of Australia. Pretty impressive the way they bury themselves and from what I understand now you definitely don't want to step on one (let alone pick it). Stargazers are a really wild fish and I'm stoked to have come in contact with this fella first hand, but I hope to never meet one again Haha! Merch - https://www.morningtidefishing.com/

"Stargazers are a delicacy in some cultures (the venom is not poisonous when eaten), and they can be found for sale in some fish markets with the electric organ removed. Because stargazers are ambush predators which camouflage themselves and some can deliver both venom and electric shocks, they have been called "the meanest things in creation"[5] The fish is often locally known as the mother-in-law fish."

So at the end of this film I'm just going off what the Wiki says, dunno if it's accurate but if you're tripping out about this fish have a read and see what you reckon - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargazer_(fish)

That particular gazer is pretty harmless. they don't shock and the only poison in them is their stomach acid which is only a problem if you suck at filleting and it gets in the meat. get them all the time targeting Flattys

What a phenomenal day with your family, whether you realize it or not you've got life by the short and curlys Briggsy. I think it's time to get your oldest son a rod and reel, he seemed really interested in fishing with his dad.
Greetings from Monterey California, a great town to be a fisherman.

Cheers Mate, yeah we go beach fishing a bit but he doesn't have that first rod/reel yet, kinda just use what ever's laying around. But you're right I gotta him that first setup.

One of the first initiations to becoming a man is to have a venomous fish thrown at you to see if you survive. You did the right thing and your son passed the first trial. LOL

I do love the family beach vlogs. I have two very young twin boys and I have to agree with your previous statement to start at the beginning. If you take them out fishing for the kings of the sea straight away they won't appreciate the growing experiences of bait fish and micro fishing. I will start my boys out the way I did with the smaller game in high quantities and work our way up to the trophy species.

Wow, I have caught a couple of these over time at Jumpinpin (Qld) when I was young.  I'd heard they were really nice to eat but was not brave enough to try as it looks sorta like a stonefish's cousin.  Holy hell they are hard to retrieve from a boat in mid depth water.  Ha I didn't know they were commercially sold as Monkfish - I've occasionally seen signs monkfish at Fishmonger's.

star gazer really good eating Lengths range from 18 up to 90 cm, for the giant stargazer Kathetostoma giganteum. Stargazers are venomous; they have two large venomous spines situated behind their opercles and above their pectoral fins. The species within the genera Astroscopus and Uranoscopus can also cause electric shocks.
