Reef Fishing in the Florida Keys. Today we head offshore hoping to get a few yellow tail snapper for dinner and to avoid our nemesis, the grunt. Mom decided to try her hand at catching a few fish as well, and successfully caught her fist ocean fish. We took our catch home, and tossed it on the grill with my homemade lemon compound butter. Thanks everyone for all the sweet comments you've made about me during my month "short" visit with my awesome son and daughter--inlaw, Jody and Jessica, it just went by so fast for me and I had the best time ever! But, I had to get back home to Tennessee and my other awesome son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Lindsay McKinney, and my grandchildren, Alyssa, Jace and Peyton. Peyton is my youngest grandchild and she cried for me while I was in Florida, and cried when we talked on the phone and she just wanted her grandmama back with her (broke my heart hearing her cry and begging me to come back) so her hugs and kisses sure made me feel better when they picked me up at the Nashville Airport! Thanks Jess and Jody for all the wonderful memories and good times! And thanks to all of our "Livin The Keys Life" family!

You know you gotta be careful when you’re reef fishing not to start feeling too Shad, Crappie, or Blue if the only thing biting out there is the noseeums! You could Clam up or become a dis-Gruntled boat captain if you sit there too long Floundering in your boredom. The “B” word is not an option when you’re on the water Perched atop your Tuna tower unless you run out of beer and haggis burgers! So you have to remember to always keep a reserve tank on board of something that’ll Snapper you out of it if need be. A little attitude adjuster that goes by the name of Jack or JB. (That would be James Brown). I just threw that last one in there for the Halibut.

Why not keep a pinfish trap by your boat so you have some live baits to drop down there? I am sure you have done more saltwater than I have but it's usually all about the bait. Great video. You have an amazing Mom!

We used to have a little pinfish trap but it got destroyed by the hurricane. We do use live bait, just usually catch it the same day. Bait fish are so quick and easy to catch!

Great! I'm sneaking out early this week and coming down Wednesday night. Going to reef fish too. Got a good spot for yellow tail not far from Looe Key. Sure hope the winds are calm. Also have a good spot for trout on the gulf side. Wish me luck.

Was a gorgeous day! Shame on anyone who says women can't fish lol! I think I do a pretty good job and proving otherwise. It's so fun to strike up a conversation with men in the tackle store. Most think women don't know what they are talking about...not this chick hahaha.

That BLUE Florida sun & water. When I worked in Atlanta for 4 years it seemed like sometimes we'd go a month with purely grey skies, and never the deep bright blue that's so common in Florida. I don't think people who live in the rest of the country know how hard it is for a Floridian to adapt to life without a 100-Watt sky!

You are right Matt. We encountered those same icky grey skies that seemed like they lingered for months! I tell you what, there is no missing that. Thankful we don't have more than a couple grey days in a row...we get grumpy if it's much more!
