Why don't you just hire someone to do the packing for you, then that way you can continue doing shipping.
Taylor
Taylor - 7 years ago
His point is that he's struggling with shipping even with a team of people. He does ship items. He just doesn't ship fish. If he ships fish, it would be even more difficult for him, and he would have to hire more people, which would eat into his profits.

If most the fish in that box are endangered or extinct they need to be bred to go back to where it was depleted from thieves. Not put into aquariums. Part of having fish in the hobby is bringing the fish inside to show the wonderful world around us, to respect it. Not deplete it and destroy the land they came from :< very disappointed after watching your vids for a few days and will likely not return.. your not conserving shit but the money on your rear..

keeping most of these fish is usually to keep a genetic pool open for when there is a chance to properly reintroduce them into the wild
Aquarium Co-Op
Aquarium Co-Op - 8 years ago
+Variety_Game_Catz I suggestion you do some research on goodeid habitat. Youll see that the endemic lakes these fish are from have dried up and there are projects to breed this fish up to populations and reintroduce them into the wild.

Who's Greg? lol
But no mine weren't really yellow but did feature some yellow on them, It's a real shame about livebearers, Theres SO many of them out there remaining unknown and in shop tanks because either know one knows what they are OR they just don't compete with the colors coming from guppies & swordtails!
I would much rather have and breed a rarer fish over a colourful fish any day of the week!
My fish room ALWAYS has some form of livebearer in it as they keep me busy whilst the Cichlids are gearing up to do there thing :)
Aquarium Co-Op
Aquarium Co-Op - 8 years ago
Did you have Greg's strain? They get really yellow which helps, but yes, these rare livebearers are hard to keep going in the hobby because they are competing against discus, guppies etc.

Aquarium Co-Op
Aquarium Co-Op - 8 years ago
He does heat seal them yes, breather bags allow gases to transfere through the bag but not water. So you can use small bags to ship fish that way. But if the bags touch each other it'll seal off the surface area to allow the exchange.

I had seen Dustin's video of Mr Sage's fish room and was amazed at how many rare live bearers there are. Now seeing his Odessa Barbs, a fish I have coveted since first encounter, I am even more impressed. His site is great for the volume of excellent information and images, videos. I know you sell plant food as I've purchased some, but have you ever tried his fertilizer? Thanks for posting this video and singing the man's praises. It is always heartening encountering dedicated aquarists who do their best to further the hobby by treating their animals and clients with respect. I get the concept of "breeding to make it appealing", never thought about it that way. It is not the fish from the wild, but at least something. Thanks for the insight.

Yeah, the real truth is no one wants to keep a brown or silver fish with a slight amount of color. But if you can get it color, they become popular.

I have a off subject question. Can I put a zebra pleco L46 with my bubble eye goldfish. My temp in the goldfish tank runs between 74-76.
Aquarium Co-Op
Aquarium Co-Op - 8 years ago
I feel like that temp is too cool for the zebra pleco to thrive long term.

Nice Video! What's your opinion on overseas bred fish vs local bred fish?
Aquarium Co-Op
Aquarium Co-Op - 8 years ago
Local fish in theory should always be easier to keep because they are used to the same water parameters.

Yeah, I learned how to ship fish from him, thats what it takes to deliver perfect fish and why I don't ship fish... too labor intensive for the prices of fish.

Does anyone know how to cool your fish tank because i live in new jersey and it gets so hot down here. My zebra danios can only live in the 70s but here it gets to 90 degrees. I didn't want tp put ice cubes because there from tap water and tap has toxins. I use frozen water bottles. Is there any other way to cool your tanks because every 20 minutes i need to put a water bottle.

If you can leave the top open, and run a fan across the top of the water, I found it reduces temp by 8 to 10 degrees.

As soon as I move at the end of the year, I'm setting up a tank for his long finned green dragons. It has been such a struggle to not give in and order! I first found out about him through the link on your website. As always, love all of your material.

Some options could be: just a skype call, only receiving voice from him, he could just watch the stream chat, and you do all the streaming.
GoToMeeting.com and join.me are both good for this sort of thing too. I think one if not both, will switch to the person talking, so if you just stream your screen it should take care of all the work for you, (if he has a webcam)

Anyways, I think it is awesome what you guys are doing, working with endangered species.
