I've got 2 black ghost knife named Ghibli and Bora. They are very beautiful and they grow up fast and easily; I love them because they are the fishes that give me more the sensation of moving freelly in water and also they're a very interesting type of fish, but they're a bit difficult to control because, if they want, they can kill everyone in the aquarium. However I love them.

I'm a thumbs UP! You conquered the rubber band whoo-hoo! lol Just my opinion, but I love the unboxing, it's like Christmas! (only you paid instead of us, lol) I like that you follow up showing them in the tanks. And I like that you explain things, esp. on camera rather than just a voice in the background. I've seen many fish I've never even heard of, so that's a plus. Murphy is just a bonus, who couldn't love that face! Really, I can't think of anything negative. I've seen quite a few of your vlogs, no complaints! Keep them coming, please!! As always, take good care of you and yours.

Hi Cory, Totally of topic but since you are the guppy king ;-p I have some guppies for the first time since I was a child and a few have got red spots on their bodies and tails. Is this normal? I had been quarantining for around 2 weeks. I first used a product with contains Malachite green, Methylene blue, and Acriflavine. Then used seachem paraguard and a product that contains Flubendazole. Finally using something with Tetracycline Hydrochloride and always used salt. Could these red marks just be natural markings?

Also what other meds you suggest? amoxicillin cannot be gotten in Australia over the counter and I'm waiting for general cure to arrive from the States but that might take 2-3 weeks and might not even be allowed in.

Sheiokee
Sheiokee - 6 years ago
i think this big kind of puffer fish can eat other things, i have minimini puffer fishes that eat small undesired snails, but also mosquito worms etc like the other fishes (no pellets or anything, they REFUSE to eat what doesnt look like living things), but they do need snails sometimes to sharp their rat-teeth ^^

I really enjoy these unboxing videos. I've been in the hobby for a long time, but I enjoy learning about some of these species and it's fascinating hearing your perspective about them. One thing I've always thought would be interesting and helpful would be to add some basic details of the fish like the pH and temperature range, and maybe the max size of the fish next to the name that you already flash up on the screen when you pull out each fish. It probably wouldn't be up for long enough to read it all, but if a viewer was interested in a particular fish they could pause the video and get a basic understanding of the fish and if it would work in their tank! Just a thought, but all-in-all I love these videos!
Aquarium Co-Op
Aquarium Co-Op - 7 years ago
I think it's unlikely we would be able to pull that off in videos like these as some parameters are subjective, and it would be a ton of work for the editor.
Apocolex
Apocolex - 7 years ago
Cory, i don't really know if the "voting" with the thumbs up or thumbs down on certain types of videos is really accurate. I feel like a lot of people would see that for instance, you uploaded an unboxing video and those of us that don't like unboxing videos wouldn't click on the video to watch it, and therefor cannot dislike the video, while those of us, like me, that love the unboxings would always come to this type of video and drop a like, so you would get nothing but likes on every type of video. Idk just a thought. Maybe every week during the live stream we could have a live vote for "what do you want to see this week" or "what is your favorite kind of video" ya dig?
Aquarium Co-Op
Aquarium Co-Op - 7 years ago
Yes, the results will always be biased. But some results are better than no results I think.

ACertainJustice
ACertainJustice - 7 years ago
Also, one other thing I'd love to see is more species spotlights on some of the more "common" fish. The only fish I have access to are your common pet store finds, but I'd love to know more about them from a well versed fish keeper. Another video I'd love to see is more "top 5" type. I know you did "top 5 schooling fish" a while back, but I'd also love to see your top 5 bottom feeders or top 5 nano tank fish.

I like the unboxing videos to an extent; they are not my favorite of your videos, though. The good: seeing how the business works, getting these large shipments, etc is great. The less good: it's hard to see how some of the fish are through the bag's wrinkles and stuff (Sera bags and all their printing). That's where a good look at the fish in their quarantine tanks (especially more exotic ones I never see at my LFS) after settling in gets me more interested.
Kathy Lynn Maracle

+Kevin Walden I think it'll be explained better in Saturday's video. Projects are kinda on hold from the house remodel and the fish room remodel that is starting. Ordered the new 750 gallon tank yesterday. But in general the unboxing videos aren't taking the spot of other videos. I simply went from 2 videos and a live stream each week to 3 videos plus the stream, with one being the unboxings

You asked for it so I disliked this. Mainly because there wasn't any real oddballs, ok a black ghost knife and your Mbu but that was it. Hi Cory. Love all your vids, unboxing is always cool. I'm in Queensland Australia and when I come to the states I'm coming to your shop to say hi and talk about cichlids! What's the best way to keep a high PH in an aquarium? My tank keeps dropping too low for me to get more fish in , my tank is 78 gallon. Please let me know I really trust your knowledge. Keep up with the great work and vids
Aquarium Co-Op
Aquarium Co-Op - 7 years ago
+Tom Elbourne you'll still do water changes if you need to from waste etc. and how long it takes to move your ph depends on how acidic the water is and how much crushed coral
Tom Elbourne
Tom Elbourne - 7 years ago
Thanks champ!! So if I got this right ... I have my water at 7.2 ph now . Tomorrow I'll put in crushed coral and it will become stable over the next few days? Do I still need to do water changes like I do every 2 weeks?
Aquarium Co-Op
Aquarium Co-Op - 7 years ago
In my opinion the best way is to have crushed coral in your substrate to keep the pH high.

I really love seeing your unboxings...Seeing all the cool fish you have in your store is awesome! I have to admit though...my favorite part of all of your videos is seeing Murphy! :) I wonder...would you be interested in doing fish spotlights? Like short videos that highlight cool fish and things they like in their tanks/how to care for them? I'm a fish newbie (I kind of cringe when I think about my poor goldfish I had as a kid when I had no idea about things like water changes) so it would be awesome learn about how to really take care of some cool fish from someone who knows what they are doing :).
Aquarium Co-Op
Aquarium Co-Op - 7 years ago
Hi Amanda, I used to do fish spotlights on the channel. You can find some older ones I've done. I do want to do some more going forward. I stopped because they always performed poorly for youtube, but I still want to make some more and have been thinking about doing it all this week honestly.

He is in a 360 gallon, 72x48x24. I think at an adult size I may need a larger tank. But in general I feel like any tank at least 36 inch front to back is a good start for a Mbu.

Love the un-boxing's. I know Cory you have said before that "they are not too educational". However I disagree. I like them because we get to see how a fish store has to order, as far as amount of fish. Just for the next couple weeks. I find it amazing.
Michael Agostino
Michael Agostino - 7 years ago
That is insane. See here is the educational part. The amount of money you the store owner needs to put out upfront just to keep the fish stock at a normal level for a couple weeks. Staggering when you think about it.

+DR1FT K1NG same. I usually find pups when I am looking that don't have real good homes and ask about it. Alot of the times the owner no longer wants them. That's how I get free/cheap puppers.

That is an interesting perspective. I myself don't have that problem when buying a larger fish etc. I don't really have a preference towards size unless it's something like a clown loach in which I might be saving many years or growing time.

Love the fish unboxing, its pretty fun and interesting. Ive learned about alot of new fish to research by watching them. But then ALL of your videos are fun and interesting in one way or another. You always add so much information. Also, you are sooo right about fish stores charging more for bigger fish. Any stores Ive been to, they all do that. You have an exceptional, pleasing philosophy Cory

Love the un-boxing videos Cory! It's always great to see the "behind the scenes" of how fish actually get to the shops where they are sold. I like how you've shown both the good and the bad with shipping fish in this video and the other unboxings. As you pointed out in one such video, (i believe the one with lots of DOA fish), you have to show the good and the bad to paint an accurate picture of what owning an aquarium store is actually like rather than just cherry picking the positives. Your passion and knowledge has quickly made your channel my favorite aquarium related channel on YouTube. Keep up the great work! And Murphy is by far the best mascot, i could watch him eat for hours, so much personality. :) Can't wait to see him at 30"+ someday

Hey Cory, just wondering how long after the unboxing does the video tend to come out? I visit the store a lot and feel like I see the unboxing before the video?
Aquarium Co-Op
Aquarium Co-Op - 7 years ago
It can be delayed by a couple of weeks. For instance I believe I unboxed these on 3/29. We used to not delay them, but then everyone comes rushing into the store and it's still in quarantine or sick etc. There's not really a best way, so I just release them as the editor can get them done etc.
