85-Foot Luxury Yacht Sinks During Maiden Launch

An expensive yacht partially sunk right after it launched in Anacortes, Washington. Shipbuilders had been delivering the shiny new 10 million dollar yacht to the owner, but as soon as it was put in the water, the yacht's stabilizer hit rocks and quickly capsized. One yacht owner is facing a nightmare scenario. The problem is that the expensive yacht partially sunk right after it launched in Anacortes, Washington. The incident went down at about 9 in the evening on a recent Sunday. Several witnesses saw what happened and according to them, the roughly 90 foot long yacht flipped. 6 people were onboard at the time. Good Samaritans along with rescue crews assisted those who were either trapped on the craft or in the water. The incident was actually just a mistake. Shipbuilders were reportedly going to deliver the shiny new 10 million dollar yacht to the owner, but it quickly capsized after being launched. The ship's mechanic thinks the stabilizer was damaged by some rocks. It's unclear who will be forced to pay for the damages.

The boat looks so obviously and completely top heavy. I would have assumed the engine, fuel and water would have provided enough ballast. Even hundreds of years ago shipbuilders new the importance of ballast and would load rocks into the lowest portions of the hull for stability.  At first sight I felt sorry for the builder but on second thought they should be as ashamed of themselves as they probably are.  But life goes on.

Also, that trailer being used to launch this 90ft boat is the dumbest thing I've ever seen.  Take a look, there's zero support from the sides. Once the stern lifts off, over it goes.

How is it possible that they had no experience doing this before ?

After seeing the other video clip that sucker looked REALLY top heavy. Kinda like a chick with 38DDDD's and a 20" waist.

More truth than you know.  I had a girlfriend that was 5',2" with a 20" waist and was 38DD.  Being the architect that I am, one day I had her stand on a scale and I lifted each breast.  They added 6 pounds to her total weight.  She was top heavy and it looked great!

The ships mechanic must be a fucking moron to make a statement like that !

It had nothing to do with stabilizers and rocks.
What a stupid statement !!!
It has everything to do with center of gravity !
It looks like the marine architect .
You would have to fill the bilge with concrete to keep that abortion upright.
It needs to be cut up and put in the dumpster along with the architect and builder.

"Mistake" nothing, the center of buoyancy and stability rests solely on the naval architect/yacht designer of this vessel. I know because I am one.  One problem faced today by designers is ignorant owners requesting granite counter tops, marble/tiled bathrooms, all that tremendously throws the center of buoyancy and stability out the window. If that's what happened here, the person who ok'd it (designer or builder) is liable. Also boats and ships today are built too high.  The next incident like this will be a cruise ship loaded with passengers rolling over.

I agree. Why wouldn't the architect see that coming and make weight offsets down low? Seems like common sense...

The truth is fairly obvious. Boats like this use many tons of ballast in their keel to provide stability. The launching trolleys are only rated to a certain load. They tried to launch without enough ballast. The stabilizers are not relevant to the cause of the mishap

Other videos show the launching dollies almost flattened by the weight of the boat. I would imagine they took some ballast off. By the way, stabilizers only work through movement through the water. Somebody is covering things up a bit. My question is, once the boat began down the ways and began to list, why didn't they STOP and pull it back up the ways? Glad nobody got hurt. Glad it's not my worry. Imagine all the water damage to the fancy carpeting and chip-board bulkheads!

Looks like it was way too tall for its length and width. When designing a boat, remember what happened to the Vasa, a massive sailing gunship that barely got out of its dock before flipping over and sinking.

Obviously BUSH'S FAULT !

Unclear? If the boat was to be delivered and was damaged in transit then it is their responsibility to pay for the damages.
