DIY Hard Bimini for Catamaran

http://tulasendlesssummer.com/shop-tula/ This took a few weeks and I was trying to find affordable options other than building it ourselves. Most were too heavy or too expensive. We were all in for about $1500 for this hard Bimini. Check out https://youtu.be/iEo7Y-fCG0I and http://svreach.com/boat-blog/hard-top.html where we got ideas and inspiration for this project. You and Zingaro are killing it. Your going to crush the La Vagabond very quickly. You sail safe you ask for assistance take on constructive comments and have no sign of arrogance.
I know I know the world is great nothing bad ever happens and everyone is lovely. But your two channels are so refreshing good bad and ugly. I guess realistic un like a few channels now youtube is being crushed by sailing channels.
Wishing you all the best and if you every get to the South Pacific give me a shout out you have free labour and home cooked meals. Thats if we are not off on our own adventures!

Flat white paint is Far and Away more reflective than gloss white paint. In fact, flat white paint is more reflective of sunlight, than a mirror.
Great job though. You're giving me ideas on how to construct my own hard Dodger, Bimini and davit cover.

Bill, you did a great job on that top! Looks really professional from the video. In the video you said you were putting non-skid on the top of it so you can walk up there if you had to. That one piece of foam with some fiberglass on it will support you weight without cracking or breaking??? Amazing. Another great video and you guys make it look easy too! Thanks!

Peel Ply, thanks, I like it and will try it next time. now for the dreaded "ya should of's" i buried DC wires under the glass for dome lights which work awesome! Made my supports out of PVC and hot glued plastic flanges with proper angle on both ends, that way it was one trip to the fabricator and he just had to copy my PVC ones. Nice job!

Nice job guys! Like the hard top. I know it's after the fact but think you could have saved some time by having the stainless steel poles fabricated with bases and then making square base shims out of foam and fiberglassing them onto the top bottom for the pole/top connection. Plus that would have thicken the hardtop at the connection areas... Just my two cents on the fabrication.  Like the PVC pipe edge idea... I'll remember that trick! Looking forward to seeing your new adventures in the Bahamas!Fair Winds and Seas!

The bubbles on the glass fiber might occur due to ‘rough’ mixing of the epoxy components. Try to stir the components more slowly. If there are bubbles in the mixture, you can try to degas the mixture by applying a vacuum. Either use a small vacuum pump or a vacuum cleaner might work as well. Confirmed less bubbles. Since you use a peelply, try to vacuum bag the whole piece next time. The vacuum pressure on top of your lamination, will compress the glass fiber nicely Onto the foam, further reducing the bubbles. Give it a try next time.

You might also want to check whether the foam that you use, releases gas under the heat of epoxy curing. That might also cause bubbles in your laminate.

Easiest way to remove peelply is pulling it back over itself in narrow strips. Pity you got air bubbles or you wouldn't even have to sand after peelply. And it is nylon, so a cheaper option is getting it from dressmakers suppliers. What type of foam did you use?
Perfect timing too as I'm making same for my 14 footer tonight. Cheers.

Copied from patreon post. I think you have a great yacht at a budget price! Just a suggestion prompted of the last seconds of the video but ‘Lucky Fish’ who have a you tube channel and sail a 38 ft Wharram posted a video taken from the helm station as they were sailing along in a good breeze. No music just the sounds of sea and wind. Fantastic. A few stern shots would have made it better. I would like to see something like that from Adrenaline. Exciting sailing, good breezes and smooth seas.

Tula's Endless Summer its super easy to lay down, also stiffens up core/foam if there isnt enough back support to lay doen 1708. Looking back at video i think thr bubbles were from sunlight cause gas bubbles to form.

Thought about a similar project on my Wellcraft CC. Coosa Composites has some really nice material. Check it out instead of using wood for future projects. Wife and I love the vids! You guys have inspired us to take some short trips on the ICW. Keep up the good work!

Jetty I noticed you’re partial to the shade. Some people think that you got it made! I think so but can see it’s not all roses. Cause dogs like you get sand in their noses. I hope you don’t and stay nice and cool. If the Ocean isn’t warm, you can go to the pool!

Another great video, Jetty but it looked like a pain! I hope that Bimini keeps you dry in the rain! Don’t stay out long in the hot, steamy sun. If you do, you’ll get burned and miss out on the fun! The next adventure is sure to be neat. We all love Jetty’s four, light brown feet!

jay bradley, I'm gonna guess that's not their boat. Looks like it has a full enclosure around the helm. Hopefully they'll chime in. If it is them, good eye.

Ok i see now what you did i thought you were going to use the pipe to hold it up, i think they have a different grade of PVC pipe to make outdoor furniture and it doesnt have the sch 40 and other writing on it but you can take some laquer thinner or acetone and wipe off the writing, i have glassed over pvc before i like to rough up the pipe with some 100 grit to make it stick good but you probablt already did that, i build custom consoles for pickups i work with this resin your using a lot, they have special rollers to help with the bubbles, looks good though!
