Great vlog. Really honest and fairly presented. Mr Abramovich is very private, but in my experience a very reasonable man. I doubt he was on board, and suspect that if the crew had recovered your drone and checked the SD card, they would have returned it to you if you have ID on it. Mr Abramovich also has a love of Yachts (He has some of the best in the world) and is not trying to hide his Yachts from the admiring public, his crew are just trying to protect him, his family, guests and property from any possible threat. You did well to get the drone back, helped of course by the fact you were still within line of sight, which is always a good idea regardless of local laws . As drone pilots we need to remember what is fun for us can often be threatening or seen as an intrusion to others, and fly with this in mind. I put money on Mr Abramovich having a Drone or two as he must love his toys!

"Russian billionaire hijacked my drone" would have been a more accurate title and still retain the click-bait vibe.

I'm an avid hiker but it seems a lot of state parks and all the national parks in the US are drone free areas. For me it doesn't seem like drone flying as a hobby is in the cards until I can go further into the wilderness with the family to shoot footage.

Um, what's "bizarre" about people not wanting your nosey drone from inspecting their property up close? If you fly your drone to someone's building or window, cops can arrest you for invasion of privacy, how is this different? Very entitled dronebag.

I'm trying to learn more about anti-drone technology is we've been contacted by a couple customers to look into getting something for their properties I have no idea what I'm getting into haven't bought my first drone yet either I want a DJI mavic... Had the similar thing happen to me flying near Eclipse in the summer but managed to keep control and just kept clear. Also the crew wouldn’t be Russian. And yes these yacht owners take privacy very seriously.

The people who's boat you were on should NEVER have allowed you to shoot another boat. I live and work in the Caribbean around Mega-Yachts that is a No-No. Does not matter who owns the boat or how pretty it is or the local laws(or lack of them). I am in no way pointing fingers at you - you don't know - people who's boat you are on should have known better. Love your stuff and glad Peter convinced you to start sharing.

This was an awesome video buddy! I loved the story too! I had something like this happen in Virginia actually. I swore someone zapped my drone because I got a weird warning while flying it and all of a sudden it stopped video feed and started acting weird. Maybe coincidence but i really think someone did something.

My rule of thumb when flying, air on the side of caution. If someone said stop, stop, if your local laws do not permit you, dont fly. News outlets are chomping at the bit to find examples or scapegoats to show off on the 5 O'Clock news. Dont be that person.

I have a neighbor who flies his drone around our house all the time. And it can be really annoying. Because you never know if/ what he's filming and what his intent is. You wouldn't want someone constantly walking around your house with a camera either. Not saying that shooting it down is the right thing, but privacy is a real issue. And I get that it's hard to feel for that billionaire. But it's important to understand that it can be really uncomfortable..

You need to have a chat with your neighbour. Their flying should not make you feel the way you write. If they are not sensitive to your concerns then do shoot it down or capture it. Drones can be great fun to fly and useful tools but they should never be a nuisance.

Downtown Chicago is tough (like most major city centers). But we've flown from the water in front of the skyline a lot and it's great because the buildings are so close. Stay away from the skyscrapers and you'll be just fine :)

If people just fly safe then we should be o.k. But a lot of people do not like drones. Im glad they made it a sport on e.s.p.n. people need to know not everyone flys crazy. Im into little race drones so i really don't worry to much. I just fly fast and low most of the time. Great post!! I posted all this before i saw the end!! That is so crazy he did that!! That scares me. People who do not like drones are going to mess with us lol!! Very cool post!! Like something out of a movie!!
