Today I show you how to test your freshwater tank for ammonia. It is actually quite simple to do, even though you feel like a mad scientist working with the corrosive chemicals and such :) Your local PetSmart (and possibly other pet stores) will also test your aquarium water for free. I chose to test mine myself for scenarios such as holidays where the stores are closed but I need to test my parameters RIGHT THAT MOMENT. I also think it is a fun skill to have. Therefore, I thought I'd share it with you, too. Next week's video is the much anticipated 3 gallon tank setup for Campbell. Please tell me thats not a betta tank. Wrong way of using the test btw. Or thats what i heard

BetterBetta Yeah, makes sense. Just was wondering why there was a decor and substrate in the bowl cuz hospital tanks usually dont have any. Also, the test i guess was done wrong because of the time you put in the liquid. First you had the tank water then the drops and shake or roll. This way is just to get a much more accurate result. Whatever it is, it should be fine now if the fish has not passed yet. As long as its thriving and healthy, nothing matters :)

+TheGolemHunter I had mentioned that in the beginning of the video, but maybe you missed it. This was a hospital tank. He had just been brought home from the store that day and was in the tank for less than 24 hours. So, yes there was a betta IN the bowl, but it was NOT a betta tank. I've heard some people say I did it right and others say I did it wrong. The comments saying I did it wrong don't offer any corrections or constructive criticism, so I am also unsure if it's actually wrong or someone's opinion. If that makes sense.

I fill the tube near the line and use the cap as a dropper. Works like a charm...

Sorry but that is NOT the way to use that test kit. Please read the instructions and advise your subscribers you made a mistake or re do the video. All the chemicals were at the bottom of the vial which does not give an accurate reading. Please for the sake for your fish and your fans.

The way you performed every part of the process was wrong and your result was not at all accurate. Please do not use this video as a tutorial for testing water parameters. Instead, read the instructions.

I fill my test tubes with a tutkeybaster. It makes it really easy to fill to the line.

I got my master test kit a few weeks ago and it is by far my favorite betta product! I was always unsure if my tank levels were off and this kit is so easy to use. I definitely recommend it to anyone that keeps fish!

Campbell is so pretty! He looks a bit like my first Betta fish, Max. Max was Black/blue with blue fins.

What you are currently doing is exactly what I would do :) Your ammonia should go down soon. Just remember that more frequent, smaller water changes are safer than less frequent, larger water changes in most scenarios, but especially ones like these :)

+BetterBetta hey, I need some help. Currently the ammonia in my aquarium is 0.25 PPM and my Nitrates are 40 PPM. I don't know what I should do. I'm using Prime and gonna do lots of water changes over the next few days but is there anything else I should be doing?

+river swanson Bowls like this should be cleaned around twice a week. However, this was just a quarantine tank and he's in a 3 gallon now. I clean the 3 gallons weekly.

+Marisa's Betta Fish They actually aren't all that expensive. I think this one was $9. The master test kit that tests for nitrates and nitrites too can be around $20, but even that is relatively affordable in comparison to the tank, ornaments, etc we have to buy! :)
