Basically what you need to understand in planted aquarium is that
Fish take oxygen produce co2
Plant take co2 and produce oxygen
So now, we have in many plants vs less fish... by the end lack of co2 in water so the plant struggle and die...
Also in the night, plants will take oxygen and produce co2 so there is some ups and downs...
