Hamzah Bullshit. Those lines are a trait of the Heckel species and don't necessarily indicate stress. They are not stress bars; they can indicate a variety of other things, like during breeding or communication with other discus. You clearly have never kept discus before, seeing as you listed off the typically fearmongering facts people use to scare others from keeping discus. Discus mainly require space, pristine water, and low-stress conditions. They go along fine with other blackwater and similar fish. Rams are a perfect companion (better than angels), as they require the same conditions and have similar temperment. I wouldn't keep Denison barbs with my discus, but besides their active nature, they should be fine with them. I don't know why people argue that discus have to be kept species only; sure it's easier, but experienced aquarists can keep them with most species of relative size and conditions that won't disturb them (cough cough serpae tetras). Also, the temperature and pH can vary more than you think. 80-86 is generally acceptable, as long as you properly acclimate them (although some are more sensitive). I've seen people keep discus is water with a pH of 7.8. Idk how they do it, but the discus were thriving, likely due to being captive-bred. As for the six or more argument, it's prefered and easier, but not necessary. Lone discus should be avoided at all costs, but pairs are commonly kept. And what the hell are you blabbing about plants? They improve water quality, and discus actually enjoy them. Even people who keep barebottom tanks will keep driftwood with java fern in their discus tanks. Fish are less stressed in natural settings. Please don't criticize someone when you don't know shit.

Hamzah no offense but your info is absolutely... cow manure. Because I have 2 discuses in my 45 gallon community tank, there's guppies mollies tetras angels, and even bettas and kerbinsis cichlids, algae eaters, and pelcos in it. it's also fully planted yet none of my discoses show any signs of stress, in fact I bought them 2 years ago when they were little, now they're huge. The only asshole in my tank in my big black angel who thinks he's the boss.

Hamzah I've kept discus for many years and that's the best feeding Discus while so stressed I've ever seen! Discus are best kept in species only tank, maybe with small tetras like cardinals as dither, but your comments are clearly from Googled facts rather than from experience! I've kept Discus that hv lived 10 years plus with more different species of fish than I cld list without problems.

+Hamzah I disagree. Ive seen lots of discus with many different species. Angels Ive heard not to put in with them, but Ive seen it done.
hell, Ive seen people put rainbow fish, congo tetra and even arrowana just fine with discus.

Corydoras, Cardinals and German Rams are often the best as they share the same habitat in the wild. Cardinals make great dithers, Corydoras clean up alot of leftover food and Rams have nice behavior.

As for plants, I think Discus are healthier when in planted tanks. It helps them feel their natural environment.

you see those black lines along it's body? it's a sign that the fish is really stressed.

◾discus should not be put with any other species besides it's own. ( except for angles)

◾the water quality needs to be very good and an exact temperature of 84 degrees( F ).

◾you need a group of six( no less than six) as they are shoaling fish.

◾you cannot put so much of plants in the tank as it stresses them out, just putting driftwood is the best option( as it lowers ph levels)

⬆Those are SOME of the main things you need to remember when keeping discus. This guy has no idea what he is doing and stressing them out alot.
