Gorgeous tank....gorgeous fish....responding to some comments. Experts have been in agreement 6 discus in a tank should be the MINIMUM due to the fact they are a highly social animal and Need To be surrounded by several of their own kind to develop a balanced social strata.... The use of live plant allows you to keep more fish than is considered normal for a tank size, because the plants use the fish waste as its food source, and in return creates better water quality....

If I may field some of the questions: temp 82-84F. Sand substrate: yes, but there may be a base layer of plant tank gravel. Algae and weeds? constant and meticulous attention. Size? looks like 75 gallon or larger. Lighting? high output florescent 6700K, 10,000K

totally agree, except when theres an out break of disease(s), depending on the severity, it could actually turn your tank into the word of resident evil. buttttt of course that's why there's hospital tanks.

only use for carbon is remove medication in water or to clearing up the water for example tannins in the water. there's really no need to have carbon in my opinion =] i have great success in planted aquarium without it.

You're correct, basically anything at 15 gallons (55L) and upwards is pretty easy to care for. Change 20-30% of the water every two weeks, feed the fish every now and then, and you're set for years. Micros and very small aquariums tend to need lots of care. One could imagine the opposite, but it's not. Bigger aquariums are easier to tend to than very small ones.

he doesnt. heavy planted aquariums only need weekly (or even every two week) changes of water , the gravel/sand doesnt need to be cleaned , all the waste becomes fert for the plants.

You can over stock Discus if you keep up regular water changes, every day is preferred but every second day is okay too. I would say a 50 gallon tank which is what you have can hold 5 adult discus, with the other fish you have in there I would say you could have 4 discus and the cardinal/neon mixture too, maybe you could sell some of the discus or get a bigger tank. They are pretty, good luck :)

Sry dude, but thats wrong i saw on the last time an interview with Stendker (one of the famoust Discus breeder on the world), and on his opinion an Jumbo Discus just need 16l to feel good! normaly you need a big group of discus cause its an groupfish.. 180l are enought for 10 of them stendker told the same ! greetings

hate people who take a big knowledge shit about tank sizes, yes i understand it is very cruel not to provide the fish with enough room to swim and by the sight of this tank, it looks like the owner has taken much care to create and scape, im sure he will provide these fish with a big enough home, i would have this person own the fish than them rot in a tiny tank at a store, probably eating budget food and susceptible to disease

You can discuss many times about the size of the tank and whatever. But you can see that your discus are healthy and beautiful on color,...meens that they are happy. Lots of difference how they can look in some stores where they are in LARGE gallon tanks...I am a fan ! keep on going !

Fantastic looking tank, i wont mention like others that it seems to be slightly overstocked, perhaps the tetras and other small fish could be put into another tank to allow more room, seems a little cramped in there. Wonderful looking plants in there, i always have trouble getting plants to grow

Man, don't get me wrong, your setup is awesome, your plants are healthy and your discus look pretty good... BUT, those discus are still young, you'll need to find a larger tank for them 7 adult discus in 180L, is way too tight! One adult discus can reach uo to 8"! Hope you own a bigger tank and plan to do another beautyful setup soon! Greetings!

I do not think that there is a tank that can not be helped by a few of the neon tetras. Fantasic build, I am stuck between having Koi angels and discus soon. Do you find the temperament is nice in the discus though?

This will motivate my husband and I to labour on our new 50L South American biotype tank started Jan.14th. We've got 10 plants so far and this week we'll pick up 2 Valisneria "natans" and 3 dwarf cyclids "borelli" to complete our family of 3 oto, 2 corydoras paleato and 2 "albina", and 5 Black Tetra. Yeah I'm not complaining it's most said 50liters / discus, here you would need 90Gallon, these fish can reach 20cm , you got a very well looking tank

That is a beautiful tank you have set up! 180L = approx 47 US Gallons, so as far as over-crowding goes I would have to disagree with drashfield. It's might be close, but with the plants and their inherent aeration and nitrate/nitrate removal, I'd say it's good! Great job, it really looks fantastic! Very peaceful!

@mustkass So, acording to your calculations, if one wants, let's say, 10 discus, then one needs a 800 l tank??! All these discus/litre formulas are nonsesne...trust me. If you read more about this fish you will find that it is not the volume of water, but the quality that maters - biological filtering, constant water parameters and so on. Discus are bank fish, by the way...the more they are, the better and safer they feel. Do my fish look stressed in any way ...? :)

Fundalul meu este un pic mai ciudat, in sensul ca m-am hotarat sa pun fundal dupa ce acvariul era setat si plin cu apa si a trebuit sa gasesc o solutie care sa nu implice miscarea lui. In concluzie am pus pe spate o bucata de PFL (lucrez in domeniul mobilierului si era cel mai la indemana)>Sfatul meu este ca cel ami bine iese cu autocolant....si din experienta cred ca negru este cel mai bun pt un acvariu plantat. Bafta!

@chrisandcookie199513 Thanks! I really don't remember what substrate i have in there (it might be JBL) but I am sure i have JBL 7 balls in it. I also fertilize with macro and micro in the water column. Regarsd!

im going to set up a planted tank , like yours ( inspired by your tank ) with a bigger carpet surface area . i might put in a few barbs , harlequin rasboras , ottos , and a few dwarf and pearl gouramis . do you think its okay? I might not add the discus because its hard to care for their needs . And could you tell me the plants your using?

this is one of the best setup for 180 l i have ever seen...and i think i've seen most of the tanks on youtube....i got a juwel rio 180 myself and i just found the inspiration for my tank...thank you :P
