hi, great to the point video! I'm planting up a tank in the coming days, and like the plants in the tank behind you, the middle brown plant , is that a crypt wendtii brown? looks perfect for what I want to do, next to it, would that be a wendtii green? lastly, the plant in the substrate on the right, is that dwarf sag? thanks for your time!
The Water Box
The Water Box - 6 years ago

Allan O'Donnell
Allan O'Donnell - 6 years ago
The Water Box Hi, I just got some dwarf sag and some Eleocharis acicularis 'Mini'. I'm going to use the eleocharis in a propagator and grow it on. I'll do the same with the dwarf sag and get a lot of it grown. I am after a dense carpet. that gives me time to decide which of the following crypts I'm getting: a "Mi Oya" crypt, "flamingo" , wendtii brown, undulatus red.
The Water Box
The Water Box - 6 years ago
Oh hey! You can try Mirco Swords as carpet for low light tanks! :) Forgot about em. Just keep it trim and it should look good.
The Water Box
The Water Box - 6 years ago
I don't know how much lighing you are goign to use but you can TRY monte carlo if you gots about low-nedium lighting. Not sure if it will do well under that kinda of condition though.
Allan O'Donnell
Allan O'Donnell - 6 years ago
The Water Box OK great thanks for the info, I'll be doing a dennerle bio co2 system which is cheap and I can leave it without killing anything .Is there any other low tech carpet plant that doesn't get big?
The Water Box
The Water Box - 6 years ago
The background is Rotalia Indica which really is close to rotundi. At the time I made this video, I was using the EI dosing method at the low tech dosage. I have since stopped dosing and it's still doing great but then again, it's all low tech easy plants. Co2, I used a passive system. The Fluval 20g set which is only like $20. If you go with it, make sure you just buy the threaded cartridges used for bike tire inflating. as refills Much much cheaper. Dwarf Sag only becomes thick and BIG (and grows incredibly fast) if you have major Co2 AND rich nutrient substrate/dosing going on. Woth out both in a low tech tank is does GREAT as a "carpet". It gets long for a "carpet" plant but you can trim it down.
Allan O'Donnell
Allan O'Donnell - 6 years ago
The Water Box thanks for replying I've been trying to accurately identify the wendtii brown, it looks great in contrast. Is the stem in the background rotala rotundi? We're you using co2 in that tank and what ferts did you use if any? I'm a dedicated shrimp keeper but now preparing a low tech planted tank and have earmarked crypts, ludwigia red, and dwarf sag as a carpet plant. Does dwarf sag become quite thick? I meant to add, is the brown wendtii same as bronze?
The Water Box
The Water Box - 6 years ago
Hey ya! Yeh, middle brown is crypt wendtii brown. Next to it is a compacta sword. Behind it is java ferns (common) and correct, dwarf sag on the front. Behind the dwarf sag that you can't really see is Blyxa Japonica.

is the bleach method good or bad thank you
The Water Box

Bleach method works great, you just have to make sure you do it right as to not kill the plants. I don't have a video on it but you can do a search on youtube as there are a few videos others have done.

Wattage per gallon is an old system of measuring light and not an accurate way of doing it. You have to start looking at PAR ratings.

Yeh there was a few plants I cut out of the video as when I looked it up it was listed as moderate lighting. I know the Ludwigia I had plan and recorded was listed as moderate lighting (my low tech 10g is moderate/low and my Rotala grow nice. Slow, but nice). I just left them out because I want to just cover the really good low light stuff.
Xavier Cherry
Xavier Cherry - 7 years ago
The Water Box or repens. At least that's what I think. I have ludwigia repens and it grows pretty steady for me under an led task light. Its about medium light/moderate light now that I'm looking at my tank

Great video! Very informative! Quick question on crazy glue gel. How long does it take to dry before you can place it in the tank! E.G. annubius on driftwood! Just curious! I've been hesitating using it for my annubius/java fern for the driftwood I have.
The Water Box
The Water Box - 7 years ago
Depends but if the surface or rhizome is a little wet the glue will cure faster (moisture is cause a reaction to the Cyanoacrylate). For me with some moisture on the surface or plant, it take like 5 to 10 seconds but it should take no more than like 30 seconds really. It's fast and easy. It may turn whitish for a week or so where the glue hardens but it should go away over a few weeks.

The Water Box
The Water Box - 7 years ago
Mainly Mark's Fish Store and Rainbow Aquariums. Those are close and that I tend to trust. If I need more rare stuff or ADA, I tend to head over the hill to Natures Aquariums. Or drive a little further to CK Fish World. But it's the traffic that slows me down or makes me not want to go that far, not the actual distance.

The Water Box lol it's ok im just kidding :) and correct one stem is one stem of that particular plant. Ludwigia white is a super rare form of ludwigia that grows super slow. The going rate is around $15 per stem with that particular plant. I may lower it based on demand, I'm still waiting on mine to grow and be at a sellable size.
The Water Box
The Water Box - 7 years ago
I didn't mention you because I've never bought from you. I just find you out the other day.

Oh I was gonna ask. On your website, when I look at a plant, it says sold as 1 stem. So I'm paying $15 for a stem of Ludwigia White?

Nice vid brother, I have most of what you mentioned. Duckweed omg I had it hitchhike in on a plants and boom. Was good as it have my fry places to hide as it covered my floating wisteria. Not sure if you caught it during Cory's feed last week where he found out that duckweed actually lowers the oxygen in a tank. I keep mine under control and use an airstone so not an issue for me. Kudos on another awesome vid!
