Have you ever just covered your pond with a cheap plastic to protect the plants in the winter? I'm here in Cali, & put my canopy over the pond then cheap plastic over it. So far so good. It's warm inside & 24-32 deg. (F) at night. Let me know. Thanks bro.

I lost three nice goldfish in my pond during the Heat wave here in WV. One fish is still suffering... he is isolating himself, kinda floating on the surface and looks sick. Not sure what is wrong with him. =[ So death toll could reach 4.

I got some of that stuff too when the temperature went up, and i'm a state to the right of you so maybe it was the temperature ....it was hot

i personally wouldnt put the tanks in a green house because the temps in most greenhouses are several degrees hotter than ambient temps...even going well past 110 in summer months. in the winter they'll go as low as the ambient freezing temps unless heaters are installed. unless dustin does something to help cool down that green house when it's completely closed up those fish are gonna fry.

I dont intend on cooling the tanks, I am only going to do a few certain, hardy species in there (swords, jungle val, sag ect) heck by the time i get the thing done, summer will be over, I will worry about cooling the place next spring...

There is no way you can keep tanks outside in the summer with the heat. Please let me know what you are going to do to cool the tanks. I've said something several times with no answer. If anyone else knows please let me know and I'll use that to build my own greenhouse for my tanks.

With the waterfall running on low water it would make more bubbles, oxygenating the tank, which could help algae grow.

I had my own business called Living Splendor for many years in San Francisco. I took care of aquariums, indoor plants and small gardens and yea grooming the plants was a big part of what I did in each of those areas, removing dead or yellow leaves, spent flowers, ect. If you have any buddies with marine tanks, I bet a lot of their fish, like tangs, would love that algae.

Algae was probably the result of plants not doing so well in the heat. Either the plants or the algae in a system will do well and it's almost never both.

I have 5 large goldfish in a 55 gal trash can on the patio. It is deep enough to stay cool and prevents raccoons from getting to them. I have a couple of power heads in there for water movement, but I mainly clean it by just stirring up the bottom and over flowing it, to carry any muck away. I take out any floating plants to keep them from getting swept away, but other than that I just put the hose in the bottom of the trash can and let it overflow every couple of days during the summer.
