absolutely there is numerous methods it all depends on your goal!
if you want simple low-tech darted tank go with low requirement plants and your hobby will be amazing and fun plus room for tons of mistakes to learn from and not to quit, using a pressurized co2 system is wonderful best investment even for a low-tech have fun!

plants #1 nutrient is co2, In a low-tech tank like this you don't need additional co2 for growth. co2 is a beautiful thing if you can have it use it if you don't your plants will grow much slower.
